Lotus Super Se7en

It’s a beutiful thing this car.  Simple, Light, Fast as Hell….and Mine.  Well kinda.

I’m building one of these at the moment, and when I say build, I mean build, as in go to the steel supplier and buy some steel tubing.  Bring it home, measure it, cut it, weld it, and make a car from scratch…man style.

I thought it would be a pretty cool thing to buy a Super Seven after seeing one on an episode of Top Gear.  They sell them as kits, and all you would need to supply would be an old Toyota motor.  For about $30k, and a few weekends in the garage, you have yourself a sweet ride, and a pretty good story.  Awesome.

So I go straight to the web and start looking for this sweet kit car (feels dirty calling it that now) and while doing my research, I find a pdf file….not just any pdf file, but a pdf with the plans and info you would need to build one of these yourself, for around $20k less than the cost of the kit.  And, as it turns out, there are alot of people doing this, in fact in Europe, the Super Seven is like a pretty big deal.

Buying and building a kit would be awesome, but building a car from SCRATCH…that would be Fucking Epic!!

Clearly you can see where this story goes from here.  Yup, I printed the plans, borrowed a welder from a friend, and repurposed an old table saw I had laying around in the garage.  The saga continues here…
